John Callis, the Baltimore Ravens fan seen assaulting a pair of Washington Commanders supporters in a video following the former’s win on October 13, is in custody and being held without bail.

Callis, 24, turned himself in to Baltimore police after a warrant was put out in his name and has since appeared before a judge following charges of first-degree aggravated assault. The former insurance salesman has also been charged with three counts of second-degree assault.

Officials have revealed that Callis was on a 15-day alcohol and cocaine bender at the time of the incident. According to the Baltimore Sun, his lawyer is pushing for him to be released to a patient treatment facility.

WJZ’s Mike Hellgren has also reported that the Ravens fan was on probation for a prior violent assault and was ordered to undergo addiction treatment after he “beat a man who appeared to be unconscious in the middle of York Road.”

There’s said to be no evidence that he ever received any treatment.

John Callis Considered A Threat To Public Safety

Prosecutors claim John Callis actually beat the Commanders fans in the viral video twice as they were attacked again after returning to retrieve their phone and wallet.

“I don’t believe this is a first-degree assault. I think it’s a second-degree assault. First-degree assault requires serious bodily injury,” his attorney told TMZ. “Is it disappointing he wasn’t allowed to be put in this OnePromise facility? Of course it’s disappointing.

“I think he needs help. The criminal justice system is both designed to punish and rehabilitate. He’s a 24-year-old kid. He clearly has a problem. He needs help.”

State Attorney Twila Driggins pushed for Callis to be held without bail, arguing he was a threat to public safety, as well as a potential flight risk given that he lives in Florida.

While District Court judge LaTina Burse Green denied bail, she did note that she could modify the ruling if the defendant found an inpatient program combined with 24/7 GPS monitoring and house arrest.
