The Halloween Lesson: How a Kind Neighbor Changed Everything for a Girl in a Costume

The neighborhood kids made fun of a poor little girl for her costume, and they didn’t invite her to join them for trick-or-treating. But they discovered the unexpected reason why she got more sweets on Halloween than anyone else.

“No! You are unable to accompany us! Take a look at your outfit! It’s really unsightly. Madison looked down in embarrassment as a girl told him that, despite her excitement over the witch outfit, her father had finally located her.

“Yes! It’s unsightly. Other children pointed at her and giggled.

“But it’s a witch costume!” Those bullies laughed even harder when Madison told them and spun around.

They were ambushed by the group.
“No! The old lady costume is filthy! The witch is me! Take a look at my outfit! A girl named Anna twirled and sneered, “It’s new, and my parents had it made especially for me.” Technically, the other children were correct when they nodded.

Anna was wearing a beautiful, new outfit. Even for a little child’s Halloween costume, it seemed pricey. Her parents were extremely wealthy, therefore she always wore the nicest clothes.

A few days prior, Madison had asked her father if she might have a costume similar to Anna’s as well. Ashton, her father, shook his head and gave her a sorrowful look. “Darling, we can’t at this time. But shortly. I swear. You’ll have the greatest costume ever one day.

The little girl was thrilled when he brought home an inexpensive, used witch costume a few days before Halloween! “Daddy, thank you! This witch outfit is sure to be adored by all! I’m grateful.

His daughter never asked for much, so Ashton wished he could do more for her, but he hoped she would enjoy trick-or-treating with the other children.

Unfortunately, that did not occur. Her clothing was ridiculed by them.

“You can’t come with us!” Anna scoffed. “To start with, I must be the only witch in our bunch. Secondly, it’s disgusting! You would never be with us! Leave!”

Madison was left alone and humiliated in the middle of the road while the other children laughed and agreed, then all went off to begin gathering candy for the evening.

The young girl originally considered asking her father to accompany her since he had been so pleased to buy her a costume, but she chose to go trick-or-treating alone since she didn’t want him to know that other children didn’t appreciate it.

She knew most of the neighbors, after all. She frequently offered assistance, assisting them with their plants and carrying their groceries. She was well-known in the area. She did not have to spend time with Anna and her pals.

The young girl raised her chin slightly in defiance and murmured to herself, “They don’t matter,” before beginning to walk.

When the children returned to the sidewalk after obtaining candy at Mrs. Vaughan’s house, Madison approached and pressed the doorbell.

She sang, “Trick or treat!” to the elderly woman, who grinned.

“Hey, sweetheart! It’s a pleasure to see you! I just adore your costume. “Said Mrs. Vaughan.” “You’re the prettiest witch I’ve seen tonight!”

Madison grinned as the elder woman gave her a ton of candy.

The grownups complimented her as she proceeded to the next house and the next, making sure the bullies had left before ringing the doorbell. Receiving so many candies lifted her spirits. They noticed, even though she didn’t think Anna’s group had.

The guys attacked Madison as he arrived at Mr. Ferguson’s house.

“Mr. Ferguson! You gave us all sweets, so why are you giving her more? It’s unfair! We also deserve better. With a high-pitched squeak that caused Mr. Ferguson’s nose to wrinkle in annoyance, Anna requested.

“Why? since Madison is the sweetest child in the neighborhood. She is useful. She is amiable. She greets everyone with a good morning and, in contrast to you, little Anna, she makes no demands. Her family has also been going through a lot. Her father is providing for them while her mother is in the hospital due to illness. Mr. Ferguson reprimanded the avaricious children, saying, “Your little group could use a friend like her to teach you about real life.” He closed the door after bidding Madison farewell.

Madison turned, gave the children a shrug, and turned to leave.

“Is your mommy really sick?” With a troubled expression, Anna halted her.

Madison gave a nod. “Yeah.”

Another child questioned, “Is she going to be ok?”

Madison shook her head in response. “I don’t know,” she said.

“Do you want to continue walking with us?” Raising one side of her mouth, Anna suggested. Madison hesitated for a moment. The children’s looks appeared genuine, but it’s possible that they are doing this to receive more sweets from their neighbors.

She gave a nod. Later on, she would find out that Anna’s grandma had passed away. Thus, it was unexpected to learn that Madison’s mother was ill. To make up for their previous rudeness, they all asked her to go on a walk with them.

They were bullies, but they weren’t awful kids; they were just a bit more pampered than Madison. Why she didn’t have as cool of a costume as they had was a mystery to them. But they changed after they did.

Following Madison’s example, they began to treat Madison like a friend after that day and also began to be kinder to the other residents of the area.

Madison was able to return to work once her mother’s health gradually improved and their household’s financial issues were resolved. But the young child insisted on wearing the same cheap witch outfit until it was too small for her. With the intention of giving it to her daughter many years later, she put it aside and kept it. Madison thought it was the most amazing outfit ever created.
